Can Bou Play and US Embassy team up

The Can Bou Play Foundation partnered with the US Embassy in Port of Spain (Trinidad) Sport Envoy for their Sport Diplomacy Programme - Soccer AssisTT which ran from 14 to 18 October 2018.

 

The Sport Diplomacy ambassadors Tom Dooley - Former U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team Captain and Assistant Coach and Estelle Johnson - U.S. National Women’s Soccer League player are visiting the country to assist this program, which is a continuous campaign providing opportunities to youth through sports in different communities throughout the country.

 

This particular programme involved engagements with over 500 young people as well as dozens of coaches, parents and community members from communities across Trinidad such as Rio Claro, Mayaro, Guayaguayare, Chaguanas, St James, Laventille, Diego Martin and the Milat Academy (Arima).

Deputy Chief of Mission John McIntyre stated, "this is part of our overall sports envoy programme that we have. It's an outreach to a lof of different local communities. We did this for over 500 youths. We really want to be involved in the local communities. We are all over TT with our efforts."

 

“This is part of our outreach that really gives youths an alternative, to allow them a way to get away from crime (and into) positive opportunities."

Can Bou Play and the US Embassy will be working on the second phase of the programme in 2019.
